From Viewing to Creating — The «Arles 2026» Photography Workshop

Les Rencontres d'Arles runs from July 6 to October 4, 2026, with its opening week from July 6 to 12. Photo Reason Academy will run two sessions of a workshop centered on «Arles 2026» — July 11–17 and September 26–October 2, 2026. Photo Reason partner Roban will lead participants into this year's festival, moving from viewing to creating and searching together for a personal photographic methodology.

This edition is themed «Reading the World Anew» (DES MONDES À RELIRE), with more than 60 exhibitions unveiled. In a world that is constantly simplified and labeled, we grow accustomed to understanding reality in a single way; the 57th Rencontres d'Arles proposes the opposite direction — to face complexity again, not by avoiding conflict and unease but by continuing, within them, to search for depth, connection and freedom.

Among this year's exhibitions — from William Klein's relentless challenge to the language of the image, to Ming Smith's poetic and independent way of seeing; from the African continent's rewriting of history and identity, to the Mediterranean's layered narratives of memory and time — all the work points to a single question: how do images change the way we understand the world?

Each year we view a great deal of outstanding photography, but the more important question is: after seeing it all, what has changed in your own photography? This time our focus is not on how many exhibitions we see, but on how to look, how to understand, and how to turn it into your own way of making work.
